Fourth generation tradition in Indian Army
Akash Rana’s family has been associated with the Indian Army for four generations.
- His father was an officer in the 69th Armored Regiment.

Didn’t give up even after initial failure

Akash Rana tried to join the army through technical entry after 12th, but could not be selected. - New dimensions in education:
After this he completed B.Sc degree and obtained specialization in MBA (International Marketing) from Uttaranchal University.
Success story in MMA and Karate
Akash Rana started his career in 2012 by earning Dan-1 grade belt in Shotokan Karate.

- Became national champion in Muay Thai and K1 in 2013 and 2014.
- Won the lightweight category at the India Open MMA Championship in 2016.

Didn’t give up on dream in army
- Recruitment to the post of Clerk:
Keeping his dream of joining the Army alive, Akash Rana joined the Madras Engineering Group as a clerk. - In-game performance:
While in the army, he performed well in boxing and wrestling and won a silver medal.
Attempt for CDS exam and ACC
- After repeated failure in the CDS examination, his company commander advised him to apply to the Army Cadet College (ACC).
- Result of hard work:
- He passed ACC exam.
- Selected for Young Leaders Course (YLC) in Chennai.
- After this also passed SSB interview.
COVID-19 and training delays
- His training was delayed during the pandemic.
- After COVID-19 ended, he joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA).
Mr. IMA 2024: Recognition of outstanding performance
Due to his excellent performance in IMA, Akash Rana was awarded the Chief of Army Staff Gold Medal.
