Pollution: threat to health and economy
Pollution is extremely harmful not only for animals but also for the economic system of the country. Governments have to bear huge financial burden due to the diseases caused by it. Increasing pollution gives rise to health crisis and increases the risk of spreading deadly diseases.
Pollution is the result of tampering with nature, and it has a direct impact on our environment, agriculture, and health. By the end of December, lack of rain led to an agricultural crisis in most states of the country. There was a serious crisis in agriculture due to the spread of drought in Himachal Pradesh and other states. Due to lack of rain, the drought situation may become even worse, which will require massive relief measures from the government. We also have to understand that air pollution can be more dangerous than Corona, and to deal with its growing problem, some restrictions are being imposed by the governments.
Air pollution: serious challenge
Air pollution is becoming an increasingly serious problem. recent swiss group IQAir released the list of polluted countries around the world, in which India’s national capital Delhi was included among the most polluted cities. According to this, last year India’s air quality was very poor after Bangladesh and Pakistan among 134 countries. In 2019, the report of Greenpeace and Air Visual had also warned that many big cities of India are facing the problem of pollution. This situation is a matter of serious concern for India.
Seriousness of Pollution: Are Governments Really Serious?
If the problem of pollution is not given serious attention, then the day is not far when this increasing pollution will cause major problems. The situation of air pollution in Delhi and some other states has become extremely worrying. Despite this, top ministers and officials in environment departments at the central and state levels of the country receive huge salaries and allowances, and green taxes are also collected from common people.
Where are the crores of rupees raised by them being spent to solve pollution? Still, why are concrete steps not being taken to stop pollution? Is it not true that issues like reservation, casteism and religion dominate elections, while the problem of pollution is ignored? This clearly shows that our governments are not serious on the issue of pollution. They only make statements on this, but do not implement concrete measures. Perhaps it would not be right to hold governments responsible for the increasing problem of pollution, because this problem can be solved not only through government measures but through collective efforts.
Responsibility of society also
Not only the government, we all are responsible for the increasing levels of air pollution. Man has played with nature for his own selfish gains and now we ourselves are suffering the consequences. The level of air pollution in Delhi increases so much that an emergency like situation arises here. People are warned not to leave their homes. Can this be a permanent solution? How long will we continue to live with temporary measures? To prevent pollution, will we be forced to keep children and the elderly always locked in the house?
If the level of pollution continues to increase like this, then living life not only in Delhi but also in other states of the country will become not only difficult but impossible.
Learn from China: ways to deal with pollution
Meanwhile, we need to learn from our neighbor China, which has taken concrete steps to control pollution. There was a time in China when a large number of deaths were occurring every year due to air pollution and Beijing had become the capital of pollution. But China took this problem seriously and implemented a National Air Quality Plan. The government promoted tree plantation to increase greenery, imposed controls on polluting vehicles and took steps to increase the use of electric vehicles.
In China, not only the government but also the common people made efforts in this direction. Along with spreading awareness on a large scale, he also took strict steps to reduce pollution. If India has to deal with pollution, we will also have to take serious steps in this direction at the ground level.
Moral Responsibility: Ways to Prevent Pollution
If we have to stop air pollution, we have to accept moral responsibility for it. To control the increasing level of pollution, not only the government, but every section of the society will have to contribute. Just as China took strict measures to control pollution, similarly collective efforts should be made in India to solve the problem of air pollution. We have to understand that the solution to pollution depends on our collective efforts, and the contribution of government, industry, and civil society is essential in controlling it.
If we want the coming generations to breathe a healthy and clean environment, we have to take concrete steps to control pollution from today itself.
