A unique and inspiring marriage was witnessed in Samastipur, Bihar, when the marriage of an HIV positive young man and woman took place in Sadar Hospital. This marriage not only brought happiness in the lives of both of them, but also gave a strong message towards the society. This marriage was organized by Dr. Girish Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital. ART Center counselor Vijay Mandal played an important role in making this marriage successful. Vijay Mandal not only performed Kanyadaan of the girl but also provided kitchen utensils, clothes, bedding and other necessary items to the new couple to start their household.

The HIV-positive girl, who is an orphan, gets her medicines from the ART center in Darbhanga. At the same time, the young man takes medicine from the ART Center of Samastipur. Doctors said that the viral load of both the patients is controlled, due to which they can lead a normal and happy married life.

Journey from court marriage to temple

In the process of marriage, first of all the court marriage of both of them was done. After this, their marriage took place in the temple as per Hindu rituals. On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. S. Of. Chaudhary, Dr. Girish Kumar, and Dr. Meraj Alam were present. During the marriage, the bride and groom garlanded each other and took blessings from everyone.

Such people are often ostracized in the society, but this is not a disease of untouchability. “People’s thinking is now changing through the government and awareness campaigns.” He described this marriage as a message to the society that HIV positive people also have the right to live a normal life and be happy.
