The 74th Senior National Basketball Championship has been organized by the Basketball Federation of India and Gujarat State Basketball Association from January 5 to 12 next year at the Sports Complex, Sidsar, Bhavnagar.
31 men’s and 28 women’s teams will participate in this event. A total of 117 matches will be played in the tournament and a total of 169 matches will be played in the knockout stage. Prize money of about Rs 20 lakh has been kept in the tournament, which also includes a prize of Rs 5 lakh for the winning team. There are a total of six groups among the men and each is ranked based on group placement. Among men, Gujarat team is at 14th place and women’s team is at 10th place. GSBA President and BFI Selection Committee Chairman Shaktisingh Gohil said that on the basis of this tournament, men’s and women’s teams will be selected for the tournaments played at the international level. Before this, a pre-conditioning camp will be organized for them. Gujarat women’s team has been progressing with excellent performance for the last few years. GSBA Honorary Secretary Shafiq Shaikh said the eight-day tournament will be a special highlight of sports in Gujarat. It is expected that both the teams of Gujarat will create their own identity in the tournament.
