Illegal immigrants in America: ED has kept an eye on several organizations for Indian smuggling on the US-Canada border. Regarding this, ED said that it is investigating the involvement of some Canadian colleges and Indian institutions in money laundering cases related to smuggling of Indians across the Canadian border. In which the involvement of some Canadian colleges and Indian institutions is being investigated. It is alleged that Indians are being smuggled with their help. Which is first sent to Canada and later to America.

Complaint was filed against many people

ED’s investigation is related to the death of four members of Dingucha village in Gujarat. Who died of extreme cold while attempting to illegally cross the Canada–US border on January 19, 2022. The ED took note of the Ahmedabad Police’s FIR against the main accused in the case, Bhavesh Ashokbhai Patel, and others and registered a complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Understand how gangs operate

The ED investigation had earlier found that as part of this human trafficking racket, the accused arranged admission in Canada-based colleges and universities for people who wanted to go to the US illegally. Such people applied for student visas in Canada and then crossed the US-Canada border illegally instead of going to college.

The ED said that thereafter the fees received by Canada-based colleges were sent back to the accounts of the individuals. Rs 55 to 60 lakh were charged from each person for this work.

About 3500 agents in India

The ED said it conducted fresh searches at eight locations in Mumbai, Nagpur, Gandhinagar and Vadodara on December 10 and December 19 in the case. It has been revealed that both the institutions had ‘contracted’ the admission of Indians in foreign universities on a commission basis. One of these institutes is from Mumbai and the other from Nagpur.

The investigation revealed that every year around 25,000 students are sent by one institute and more than 10,000 students are sent by another institute to various colleges located outside India. These organizations have about 1700 agents in Gujarat and about 3500 agents all over India, of which about 800 are active.

Many organizations are involved in trafficking of Indian citizens

About 112 colleges in Canada have an agreement with one institution and more than 150 colleges have an agreement with another institution. The ED suspects that some of the total 262 colleges in Canada near the US border are involved in this racket of smuggling of Indian citizens.
