Mumbai: On the eve of Christmas, along with the global markets, the Indian stock markets also got into the holiday mood. After the huge fall in the shares in the last few days, a decline was seen again in the index based index today. Foreign institutional investors, foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth Rs 2,454 crore today ahead of Christmas, while local funds – Local institutional investors saw net buying of Rs 2,819 crore today after yesterday’s buying, although selling was lower in many stocks. Sensex rose 337.19 points to 78877.36 in the early session led by FMCG stocks ITC, Nestle India as well as auto stocks Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra along with TCS, Kotak Mahindra, NTPC, Asian Paints, Sun Pharma among others. But the recovery faded due to selling in top funds State Bank of India, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance as well as Titan Company, Power Grid Corp, Adani Ports, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and ultimately the Sensex closed 67.30 points lower. At 78472.87. While the Nifty 50 spot index initially rose 114.20 points to 23867.65, then fell from the peak to 23685.15 and finally fell 25.80 points to close at 23727.65.
Vedanta falls Rs 13 to Rs 462: Hindalco, SAIL, Tata Steel fall: Coal India, Jindal Stanley rise
Metal-mining stocks witnessed overall selling by funds today. Vedanta fell by Rs 10.90 to Rs 462.20, SAIL fell by Rs 2.15 to Rs 119, APL Apollo fell by Rs 23.95 to Rs 1517.20, JSW Steel fell by Rs 14.45 to Rs 922, NALCO fell by Rs 25 to close at Rs 214.65, Hindalco fell by Rs 2.95 to Rs. NMDC fell Rs 5.60 to Rs 628.40, NMDC fell Rs 1.50 to Rs 212.50. BSE Metal Index fell 279.12 points to close at 29593.98. While Coal India rose by Rs 1.65 to Rs 384.65, Jindal Stainless rose by Rs 3.05 to Rs 730.50, Jindal Steel rose by Rs 3.55 to Rs 943.80.
Funds ease trade in consumer stocks: Voltas, Blue Star, Titan, Dixon Tech fall
Funds partly offset the uptrend in shares of consumer durables companies today. Voltas fell by Rs 23.90 to Rs 1672, Blue Star fell by Rs 21.95 to Rs 1982, Titan Company fell by Rs 33.25 to Rs 3363.25, Kalyan Jewelers fell by Rs 3.80 to Rs 719.95, Dixon Technology fell by Rs 92.10 to Rs 17,905.30. While Whirlpool of India rose by Rs 39.90 to Rs 1890, CG Consumer rose by Rs 4.10 to Rs 394.75, Havells India rose by Rs 11.80 to Rs 1672. BSE Consumer Durables index closed 322 points down at 64167.82.
Among auto stocks, Tata Motors rose Rs 14 to Rs 736: Uno Minda, Bharat Forge, Eicher Motors, TVS gained.
After heavy selling in the last few days, selective buying was seen in shares of automobile companies today. Uno Minda price increased by Rs 32.50 to Rs 1055.35, Tata Motors price increased by Rs 13.85 to Rs 736.35, Bharat Forge price increased by Rs 24.35 to Rs 1322.90, TVS Motor price increased by Rs 37 to Rs 2425.15, Mahindra & Mahindra increased by Rs 54.60 to Rs 4805. GAYA rose by Rs 18.10 to Rs 2930.50, MRF rose by Rs 495.65 to Rs 1,30,833.20. BSE Auto Index closed 268.46 points higher at 51356.21.
Attraction in FMCG stocks: ITC, Nestle, Triveni Engineering, Emami, Gillette India rise.
Select funds are buying FMCG shares today. Triveni Engineering increased by Rs 37.70 to Rs 494.10, Emami increased by Rs 30.50 to Rs 597.50, Gillette India increased by Rs 443.10 to Rs 9524.50, Dalmia Sugar increased by Rs 15.95 to Rs 382, Bannari Aman Vadilal increased by Rs 87.70 to Rs 3753.75. The price of Radico Khaitan increased by Rs 93.05 to Rs 4215.95, the price of Radico Khaitan increased by Rs 54.15 to Rs 2522.05, the price of Pratap Snacks increased by Rs 15.15 to Rs 1093.45. BSE FMCG index closed 118.26 points higher at 20,630.73.

Aarti Drugs rose by Rs 47.15 to Rs 471.10, Amy Organics rose by Rs 165.95 to Rs 2299.45, Biocon rose by Rs 15.25 to Rs 344.80, Orchid Pharma rose by Rs 70.90 to Rs 1797.65, Wockhardt at Rs. From Rs 49.65 to Rs 1489.60, Jubilant Pharma rose by Rs 27.65 to Rs 1092.05.
Among oil-gas stocks, HPCL rose by Rs 10 to Rs 413: GAIL, Indraprastha Gas, Oil India gained.
International crude oil prices strengthened, with Brent crude rising to $73, but oil-gas stocks remained bullish. HPCL rose by Rs 9.50 to Rs 413.45, GAIL India rose by Rs 4.10 to Rs 198.05, Oil India rose by Rs 5 to Rs 425.65, BPCL rose by Rs 2.60 to Rs 291.
Greaves Cotton rises Rs 18 to Rs 247: Dynamic Techno, RBL Bank, Orient Electric gain
Greaves Electric Mobility Limited, the electric mobility arm of Greaves Cotton, is one of the group’s favorite emerging stocks today. Funds made selective purchases of small, mid-cap stocks despite selling in many stocks: 2019 stocks closed negative
Despite lower pricing in select stocks across small, mid-cap stocks today, market sentiment remained negative as selling in several stocks by cautious funds continued during the year. Out of the total 4092 stocks traded on BSE, the number of declining stocks was 2019 and the number of gainers was 1977.
FPIs/FIIs net sold Rs 2454 crore in cash: DIIs net bought Rs 2819 crore
Foreign portfolio investors-FPIs, FIIs sold shares worth Rs 2454.21 crore in cash today. There was a sale of Rs 7386.97 crore against the total purchase of Rs 4932.76 crore. Whereas DII-Domestic Institutional Investors made net purchases of Rs 2819.25 crore in cash today. There were sales of Rs 7695.05 crore against total purchases of Rs 10,514.30 crore.
