Congress’s petition in Supreme Court: The matter of amendment in election rules has now reached the Supreme Court. Congress has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on Tuesday against the amendment in the election rules of the Central Government. The general public will not be able to inspect electronic documents.
Recently the Central Government has banned public inspection of electronic documents related to elections. After the research, the general public will no longer be able to inspect electronic documents. Its purpose is to prevent possible misuse of these records.
Jairam Ramesh filed the application
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has challenged the new amendment in the Supreme Court. He said that the integrity of the electoral process is rapidly eroding. Hopefully the Supreme Court will help in restoring it. Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, ‘A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the recent amendment in the Election Rules-1961.’
Election Commission is a constitutional body
Jairam Ramesh said that the Election Commission is a constitutional institution. It is its responsibility to conduct free and fair elections. But such brazen amendments to the law cannot be allowed unilaterally and without public consultation. He said the research eliminates public access to essential information that makes the electoral process transparent and accountable.
