Famous Indian cinema director Shyam Benegal died on Monday, 23 December 2024 in Mumbai. He was 90 years old and was ill for a long time. Benegal will always be remembered for his amazing cinematic vision and great stories. He was honored with 18 National Awards for his contribution to the Indian film industry.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur shared a picture of Shyam Benegal while paying tribute to him on social media platform X. they wrote:
“He gave birth to ‘New Wave’ cinema. Shyam Benegal will always be remembered as the man who changed the direction of Indian cinema with films like ‘Ankur,’ ‘Manthan,’ and countless others. He made great actresses like Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil stars. Farewell my friend and guide.”

Just celebrated 90th birthday

Shyam Benegal celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this month. During this time he had revealed that he was working on 2-3 new projects.

    “We all get old. I don’t do anything big on my birthday. It may be a special day, but I don’t particularly celebrate it. I cut the cake in the office with my team.”

    He said, “I am working on two to three projects. They are all different from each other. It is difficult to say which project I will complete first, but all of them are for the big screen.”
