Sunil Gavaskar criticizes Indian team management: R Ashwin, who was the biggest match winner for Team India in the last 13-14 years in Test cricket, has said goodbye to international cricket. Ashwin was included in the Test squad for the five-match Test series against Australia, but he retired from international cricket midway through the series. The third match of Border Gavaskar Trophy was played in Brisbane. The match ended in a draw due to rain and with this Ashwin said goodbye to international cricket. After the announcement of Ashwin’s retirement, speculation has increased and claims have been made that he was pressured to retire. At the same time, now former Team India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has held the Indian team management responsible for Ashwin’s retirement and has criticized it a lot.

Gavaskar took charge of team management

Talking about the Australia tour, India had fielded three different spinners in the first three Test matches. Washington Sundar played well in Perth, R Ashwin played well in Adelaide and then Ravindra Jadeja got a place in the playing eleven in Brisbane. In his mid-day column, Gavaskar took a dig at the team management. Gavaskar said, ‘Batsmen and bowlers are treated differently in overseas conditions. There was no reason to leave him out in the home Tests, as the management knew they could not win matches without him. If it is said that pitch number one is not a suitable pitch and condition for a Test bowler, then why is the same not done for the batsman?

He was not even allowed to become vice-captain

Not only this, Gavaskar believes that ‘Ashwin could have been a successful captain in Test, but he was not given this opportunity. Ashwin could have been a good captain for Team India, but he was not even given a chance to become the vice-captain. So it is good to see that captain Rohit Sharma is giving Ashwin a chance to captain in his 100th Test.
