Lucknow Medical College Vs. Order passed in state case: Direction to conduct special counseling round
This order has been given in the case of Lucknow Medical College vs State of Uttar Pradesh. The Supreme Court bench of Justice BR Gavi and Justice KV Vishwanathan has given this order. The petition has sought to organize special or strategic counseling to fill the vacant seats even after the fifth round.
The Supreme Court has said that in view of the serious shortage of doctors in the country and to ensure that the scarce medical seats are not wasted, we are prepared to increase it as a last resort.
Therefore the admission authorities are directed to conduct fresh special council rounds for the remaining increased seats and in any case complete the admission process before December 30, 2024.
The Supreme Court has also ordered that no college will admit any student directly and all admissions will be given through state admission authorities.
The court also clarified that this special council will not affect the earlier admissions and only the waitlisted candidates will be given admission.
Apart from this, the Supreme Court directed that the vacant NRI seats should be converted into general category and they should also be filled through the state admission authorities.
