Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian community at the community program ‘Hala Modi’ organized in Kuwait on Saturday. During this, he recalled the historical, cultural and trade relations between India and Kuwait and described it as a relation of civilization and hearts.
Indian Prime Minister reached Kuwait after four decades
The Prime Minister began his address by saying:
“I reached Kuwait just two-two and a half hours ago, and ever since I stepped here, I have been feeling a different kind of belonging and warmth all around.”
He also mentioned that an Indian Prime Minister has visited Kuwait after a long gap of 43 years.
“It takes only four hours to come here from India, but it took four decades for the Prime Minister to come here.”
Deep relationship between India and Kuwait
Highlighting the historical relations between India and Kuwait, the Prime Minister said,
“India was one of the first countries in the world to recognize the independence of Kuwait.”
Describing Kuwait as a “partner of the countries situated on the two sides of the Arabian Sea”, he said that this relationship is not just of diplomacy, but of hearts.
Mutual cooperation during Covid-19
PM Modi stressed on mutual cooperation between India and Kuwait during the Covid pandemic. He said:
“When India needed liquid oxygen, Kuwait helped us by quickly supplying it. The Crown Prince himself played an active role in this process.”
India also cooperated by sending vaccines and medical teams to Kuwait during the pandemic.
India: an emerging global power
Talking about India’s progress and global contribution, the Prime Minister said:
- India is today the fifth largest economy in the world.
- India’s fintech ecosystem is number one in the world.
- India has the third largest startup ecosystem.
- India has now become the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world.
Modi underlined the possibilities of India’s contribution to Kuwait’s future, saying:
“India has the potential to meet Kuwait’s needs in every sector, from startups to fintech and healthcare to green technology.”
Appreciation of Indian community
The Prime Minister praised the Indian community, saying that their hard work and skills have further strengthened relations between Kuwait and India. He said that Indian youth are moving towards becoming the “skill capital of the world” and can give new strength to Kuwait’s “future journey”.
Kuwait’s respect for India
Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to the Royal Family of Kuwait for inviting him as the chief guest at the Arabian Gulf Cup. He described it as a symbol of Kuwait’s respect for India.
