Sunita Williams’ return from space delayed: NASA’s Indian astronaut Sunita Williams, stranded on the International Space Station (ISS), has received another blow to her hopes of returning to Earth. NASA says that both the astronauts may have to wait a long time to return to Earth from the space station.

Return was halted due to technical fault in Starliner

Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore conducted a test flight to the space station on June 5 this year in Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. The two reached the space station on June 6, from where they were scheduled to return to Earth a week later, but due to a technical glitch in the Starliner, their return could not take place.

The plan was to bring it back in February, 2025

NASA and SpaceX were scheduled to launch the Crew-10 mission in February. Which will now be delayed. Because new Dragon spacecraft are being built for this mission. Four people will go to the space station in this capsule. Steve Stich, NASA’s commercial crew program manager, said the manufacturing, assembly, testing and final integration of spacecraft takes some time. Sunita and Butch will have to stay at the station for another month

Why the delay in Sunita Williams’ return?

Sunita Williams’ return has been delayed due to helium leaks and thruster problems in the Boeing Starliner. However both Sunita and Wilmore are present at the space station. Along with doing research, he is also helping other astronauts in various tasks.

Will they be able to spend three more months in the space station?

Sunita and Butch Wilmore are in no danger. Both of them will be able to spend the next three months comfortably on the space station. There are currently 9 astronauts present at the space station. This is not the first time that astronauts have had to extend their journey. However, this would be Sunita’s first unexpectedly long stay at the station.
