Death of Congress workers: Youth Congress worker Prabhat Pandey died during the assembly gherao demonstration organized by Congress in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Congress claims that Prabhat Pandey, a resident of Gorakhpur, got injured due to the push and use of force by the police during the protest, due to which he died. In Guwahati, Assam also, a worker died during a Congress demonstration. Congress has targeted BJP regarding both the incidents.
Congress targeted Yogi government
Congress termed the incident as ‘police brutality’ and made serious allegations against the government of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The party has demanded financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to Prabhat’s family and a government job to one member.
On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
Rejecting Congress’s allegations, Brijesh Pathak said that Prabhat Pandey was found lying in the room of the party office. He gave instructions to the director of the Civil Hospital for better treatment, but as soon as he reached the hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
Worker dies during protest in Assam
A worker Mridul Islam also died during a Congress demonstration in Guwahati, Assam. Congress alleges that during the protest the police lathicharged and released tear gas shells, due to which Mridul died. This demonstration was held regarding Manipur violence, bribery allegations against Adani Group and other issues. Congress called it a symbol of the ‘autocracy’ of the BJP government. However, Assam Police rejected these allegations and said that the cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report.
Rahul Gandhi attacked BJP
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked the BJP governments regarding both these incidents. He wrote on the social media platform, “Congress party is doing Satyagraha across the country in support of Baba Saheb and the Constitution. Meanwhile, the death of Mridul Islam in Guwahati and Prabhat Pandey in Lucknow is very sad and condemnable.” Rahul Gandhi expressed condolences to the families of these workers and said that Congress will continue to fight for “truth and Constitution”.
Priyanka Gandhi compared with British Raj
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi also described the actions of the BJP governments as ‘British Raj’. He said that BJP is strangulating the Constitution and democracy. Congress described these incidents as an attack on democracy and the Constitution. The party said, BJP governments are trying to crush the democratic opposition not only in Parliament but also on the streets.

Congress has raised serious questions on the police of both the states. The party says the government’s use of force during peaceful protests and shirking responsibility after his death reflects the government’s “autocratic mentality”. Congress has demanded an impartial investigation into both these incidents. The party said the officials and government responsible for these deaths should be held accountable.
