According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area has formed over the Bay of South West Bengal. Due to this, the cyclonic circulation extends to the central tropics. It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast in the next 2 days. Western Disturbance is active with central and upper tropical westerly winds. This fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region. Due to its effect, winds will blow at a speed of 50 to 55 km per hour in the states of South India. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha today, tomorrow and the next day. Mahe, Yanam, Rayalaseema may also receive light to moderate rain.

According to the Meteorological Department, for the next 5 days till December 23, severe to very severe cold wave may prevail in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana. Dense fog may occur in the morning and evening in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, East Rajasthan. There is a possibility of frost on the ground in different areas of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
