Ontario, Canada: Three members of a family died in a house fire in the province of Ontario. The dead include an Indian-origin couple and their minor daughter. The incident occurred on March 7, but was reported on Friday. The remains have been identified as those of all three members of the Indian family.
The family lived in the Van Kirk Drive area of Brampton on Big Sky Way. According to news agency PTI, investigators said they could not ascertain the number of people killed. A neighbor of the family informed about the incident, after which the police reached the spot. However, as the fire died down, they found what were believed to be human remains.
The family has been identified as Rajiv Warikoo (51), his wife Shilpa Kotha (47) and their 16-year-old daughter Mehak Warikoo. Local media reports said police have not yet determined the cause of the fire and are treating it as 'suspicious'.
In a press statement, police said they were continuing to investigate the deaths of three family members and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
