Gwalior Agra Expressway

Traveling between three states in India will soon become easy and convenient. For this, Gwalior-Agra Expressway is being constructed rapidly. This 88 kilometer long and 6-lane expressway will improve connectivity between Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The main objective of this project is to connect Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh with Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Besides, under this project, approval has also been given for the construction of a suspension bridge on the Chambal River.

What is Gwalior-Agra Expressway Project?

  • This expressway will connect Deori village located on the Inner Ring Road of Agra with Surera village on Gwalior Bypass.
  • The route of this 6-lane road will pass through Bhind and Morena.
  • Vehicles will be able to run at a speed of 100 km per hour on the expressway.
  • 502 hectares of land has been acquired for this project.
  • The estimated cost of the project is said to be Rs 2,497.84 crore.

Which cities and villages will be connected?

Gwalior-Agra Expressway will pass through the following areas:

  • 14 villages of Agra
  • 30 villages of Dholpur (Rajasthan)
  • Many areas of Morena (Madhya Pradesh)

  • Culverts and Bridges:
    • 47 bridge
    • 4 small bridges
    • 5 big bridges
  • Connections to other major expressways:
    • Bundelkhand Expressway (Etawah)
    • Agra-Lucknow Expressway (Lucknow)
    • Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (Kota)

Saving time in travel:

  • Travel time between Gwalior and Agra will be reduced by 2 to 3 hours.

Environmental impact and solutions

Many trees will be cut for the construction of this project.

  1. Total trees cut:
    • Approval has been given to cut about 4,000 trees.
    • Permission to cut 755 trees in the protected Taj Trapezium zone is still pending.
  2. Tree Plantation Scheme:
    • The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has promised to plant 1.24 lakh new trees in return.

Project Progress:

  • About 85% of the initial work has been completed.
  • 550 hectares of land has been acquired and 95% compensation has also been distributed.
