A sensation was created when a live mortar bomb was found in Koirengei area of Manipur on Tuesday (December 17) morning. This place is just one kilometer away from Luwangshangbam, which is the capital of Chief Minister N. Very close to Biren Singh’s personal residence.
Claim of attack with rocket launcher
Locals claimed that a rocket-propelled bomb was fired on Monday (December 16) night, but it did not explode. There was an atmosphere of panic in the area after a 51 mm live mortar bomb was recovered on Tuesday morning. After this, the security of the Chief Minister’s residence was increased and investigation into the matter has been started.
Security agencies have increased their deployment in the area and started investigation to find out the source of the bomb and the motive behind it.
Arrest of militants and killing of workers of Bihar
Meanwhile, 8 members of the banned militant organization Kanglipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) have been arrested from Kakching district of Manipur in connection with the murder of two migrant laborers from Bihar.
- Search operation: Police operation is going on since December 14.
- Recovery: Arms, ammunition and 10 mobile phones were recovered from the militants.
Chief Minister Biren Singh strongly condemned the brutal murder of Bihar laborer brothers Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dashrath Kumar (17).
- He announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh each to the affected families.
- Singh said that if needed, the case will be handed over to NIA.
Chief Minister’s big allegation: ‘Agencies are giving wrong information to the Centre’
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday accused some agencies with vested interests of giving wrong information to the Center regarding the situation in Manipur.
- He said this is an attempt to destabilize the state.
- Emphasizing on the unity of the people of Manipur, Singh said, “We need to take a firm stand and act with confidence.”
Statement in the Vijay Diwas program
The Chief Minister said in the program organized on the occasion of Vijay Diwas:
“We have been facing unrest for the last 19 months. People ask what the government is doing and their question is legitimate.”
He alleged that due to politically motivated information, many leaders of the central government are not able to know the true situation.
- “Some agencies are deliberately misleading the Center by giving wrong information. The result is that the solution is getting delayed.”*
Singh stressed that political leadership and policy makers need to work with new thinking to deal with future problems.
