Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 (PMAY 2.0). Under this scheme, financial assistance will be provided to economically weaker section (EWS) and middle class (MIG) families in urban areas to build houses.

- Launch date:
- The Union Cabinet had approved PMAY 2.0 on 9 August 2024.
- Target:
- Under this scheme, 1 crore new houses will be built.
- Support per unit:
- Financial assistance of Rs 2.30 lakh will be provided by the government for each house.
- Progress so far:
- In the first phase, 1.18 crore houses were sanctioned in urban areas.
- So far, construction of 85.5 lakh houses has been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries.
