A very painful incident has come to light in Wayanad district of Kerala, where a tribal man was dragged by car for about half a kilometer. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Mathan of Chemmadu Basti. In this incident, Mathan suffered serious injuries on his hands, hips and legs.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening, when tourists had reached near a check dam in Koodal Kadavu area of Mananthavady. There was an argument between two tourist groups over some issue. At that time some local people including Mathan arrived to intervene.
Meanwhile, Mathan’s finger accidentally got stuck in the door of a car. But the people sitting in the car did not stop the vehicle and dragged Mathan for about half a kilometer.
Video of the incident went viral, accused absconding
Video footage of the incident surfaced on Tuesday, in which this painful scene is captured. The four accused in the car are absconding after the incident. According to the police, the car used in the incident is registered in Kerala.
Police have registered a case under sections 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), among other sections. The search for the accused is on.
Minister gave instructions for strict action
Kerala Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Minister O.R. Kelu strongly condemned the incident. He has directed the district police chief to take strict action against the culprits.
The minister said, “The government is taking such attacks on the tribal community seriously. All necessary steps are being taken to trace the culprits and bring them to justice.”
Dragging incident also took place in Thane, Maharashtra.
