Relations between India and China seem to be gradually warming. Relations between the two countries have softened in the last few days due to the border dispute. After the dispute over the conflict points of Dapsang and Demchok, a round of talks has started once again between the two countries. Meanwhile, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is scheduled to visit China soon. During this time he can meet his counterpart and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

PM Modi and President Xi took this decision

During his visit to China, Ajit Doval will lead the Indian delegation in the new edition of the Special Representative talks on border issues. This conversation will take place after about five years. Earlier, Special Representatives (SR) talks were held in New Delhi in December 2019. The decision to restore this mode of dialogue was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23.

Special representative talks have not taken place in five years

A source said the SR talks could take place by the end of this month or early January. No official information has been given yet on where the SR talks will take place. India and China prepared for special delegation talks in their diplomatic talks on 5 December. India’s special representative for the talks is National Security Advisor Doval, while the Chinese side was led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi. No special representative talks have been held in the last five years due to the eastern Ladakh border dispute.

Relations between India and China became tense

The military standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and the Galwan Valley clash in June the same year led to severe tensions in relations between the two neighboring countries. The standoff ended after the completion of withdrawal of troops from Depsang and Demchok under an agreement. The agreement for withdrawal of troops was finalized on 21 October. Two days after the agreement was signed, Modi and Xi Jinping held talks on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan. In the meeting, both sides agreed to restore several dialogue mechanisms, including Special Representative talks on the border issue.
