Accused of leading an undemocratic group

Sheikh Hasina Mounts Attack On Yunus

Sheikh Hasina Mounts Attack on Yunus: Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the head of the country’s interim government, Mohammad Yunus, accusing him of leading an undemocratic group. Hasina termed Yunus a fascist and said that the main objective of his government is to suppress the spirit of liberation struggle and pro-liberation forces.

16 December: Victory Day of Bangladesh

Bangladesh achieved independence on 16 December 1971. This day is celebrated as Vijay Diwas. On December 16, the then chief of the Pakistani Army, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, surrendered along with 93,000 soldiers. This surrender took place in front of the joint forces of the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, after which East Pakistan got a new identity as Bangladesh.

Due to massive anti-government protests in August 2024, Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country and come to India.

Hasina’s statement and allegations against Yunus

Sheikh Hasina said in her statement that anti-national groups have seized power in an unconstitutional manner. He said:

“This undemocratic group under the leadership of fascist Yunus has taken over power and has no accountability towards the public.”

Hasina alleges that Yunus and his government are obstructing public welfare works.

Target on rising inflation and public problems

Sheikh Hasina also targeted the Yunus government over rising inflation and public problems. He said:

“The people of Bangladesh are burdened with rising prices. Since this government is not democratically elected, they have no accountability towards the people.”

Hasina also said that the main objective of Yunus’ government is to suppress the voice of the liberation struggle and pro-liberation forces.

Power struggle and political instability

This statement of Sheikh Hasina clearly shows that political instability and power struggle continues in Bangladesh. Hasina’s allegations against Mohammad Yunus reflect the growing political tension in the country.
