New Delhi: Zakir Hussain, the maestro and famous tabla player who gave India a distinct identity in classical music across the world, passed away on Sunday. He breathed his last in a hospital in San Francisco. Zakir Hussain’s death has been confirmed by his family members. It is being told that 73-year-old Zakir Hussain was suffering from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. For the last few weeks, he was admitted in the ICU in a hospital in the American city of San Francisco.

In an interview to PTI, Zakir Hussain told that he is suffering from a serious disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). There is no cure for this disease. This disease occurs in the lungs due to which there is difficulty in breathing.

According to the NIH, if you smoke or have a family history of IPF, you have a higher risk of getting the disease.
