Ustad Zakir Hussain, whose tabla sound made a special mark in the world of music, is no longer among us. He died at the age of 73 and breathed his last in San Francisco, USA on Monday morning Indian time. Ustad Zakir Hussain was admitted to the ICU of the hospital, where his condition was critical and he was facing blood pressure problem. Ustad Zakir Hussain was the son of the great tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha Khan and took tabla lessons from his father. His musical journey can be gauged from the fact that he gave his first concert in America at the age of just 11 years. The relationship between him and Tabla lasted for about 62 years. During this long journey, Ustad Hussain won three Grammy Awards and was also honored with Padma Vibhushan. His contribution gave Tabla special recognition on the international stage and his art gave a new direction to the music world.
