Four arrested for attack on Hindu house, temple in Bangladesh

Dhaka: Hindu temples and shops are still being attacked in Bangladesh. Finally, the police have arrested four people in connection with one such attack.

Aleem, Sultan, Imran and Shahjahan, four men who attacked Hindu temples, shops and homes in Sunamganj district earlier this month, have been arrested.

The media department of the chief advisor to the Bangladesh government in Dhaka said a Facebook post by Akash Das, a resident of Sunamganj district, created unrest across the region. Although this post was deleted, its screenshots went viral. The same day the police took Das into custody. However, the mob freed him from the police and attacked him. On the same day, a mob of local people attacked Hindu temples, shops and houses.

Police have registered a complaint against more than 170 unidentified people involved in the attack and violence, while 12 people have been identified. Out of which four people have been arrested. After the end of Sheikh Hasina’s rule in Bangladesh, fundamentalists have become furious and are attacking Hindus. Two priests associated with ISKCON were also arrested, after which incidents of violence have increased in the entire area. India’s Foreign Secretary met his counterpart in Dhaka, after which Bangladesh Police has woken up and is taking action against the accused.
