Bareilly, 14 December (HS). The decision given by the Supreme Court on the Places of Worship Act 1991 is being described as a historic step for communal harmony and peace in the country. In this context, an important meeting of All India Muslim Jamaat was organized at Grand Mufti House in Bareilly. The meeting was presided over by National President Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi.
Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi, in his address, said that under the Places of Worship Act 1991, which was implemented by the Narasimha Rao government to prevent communal tension in the country, a provision was made that all religious places as on August 15, 1947, The structure will be retained and no changes will be made to it. However, Babri Masjid was kept out of the scope of this law.
He said that after the construction of Ram Janmabhoomi temple in place of Babri Masjid, many communal forces started dragging other historical mosques and dargahs into legal disputes. Controversy arose over Gyanvapi Mosque (Varanasi), Shahi Idgah (Mathura), and other religious places. The decision given by the Supreme Court has curbed such activities and has taken an important step towards reducing communal tension.
Senior Jamaat member Maulana Mujahid Hussain Qadri said, “The Muslim community has always respected the law and will continue to do so in the future. “Muslims have heaved a sigh of relief with this decision of the Supreme Court.” At the same time, Haji Nazim Baig said that this decision will work to increase peace and harmony in the country.
In the meeting, the Jamaat members unanimously welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court and termed it as a positive initiative for the country. Many prominent people including Mohammad Zuhaib Ansari, Roman Ansari, Haseeb Khan, Maulana Absar Raza, Sahil Raza, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Hafiz Abdul Wahid Noori, Khalil Qadri and Maulana Farooq Razvi were present on the occasion.
