What came to light in the research?
When research was done on 80 patients suffering from colon cancer, it was found that they had higher levels of bioactive lipids which are formed after the breakdown of seed oil. The research looked at 81 tumor samples from people aged 30 to 85 and found that the seed oil caused the high lipid content in their cancerous tumors. In the early 1900s candle maker William Procter made oil from the seeds as a cheap alternative to the anilum fat in soap. However, it soon became a staple of Americans’ popularity.

However, breaking down the bioactive lipids in the seed oil may help colon cancer grow faster and may even stop the body from fighting the tumor. The seed oil contains omega-6 and polyunsaturated fatty acids. According to research, inflammation caused by excessive consumption of seed oil may promote the development of cancer. However, research on this is still ongoing.
