Looking at the way the interim government of Bangladesh is behaving, it seems that Bangladesh is spoiling its relations with India. This is not only worrying for India, but is also not good for Bangladesh. Bangladesh shares its border only with India. There is sea on three sides and land on the other side, India. Maintaining distance from India will lead to disaster for it.
Till just six months ago, Bangladeshi clothes were highly appreciated in America, Canada and European countries. Take any brand of cloth which has ‘Made in Bangladesh’ or ‘Made in Vietnam’ written on it. Bangladesh was at the top in the textile market and the slogan of ‘Made in China’ or ‘Made in India’ was echoing in the shoe market. The weavers of Bangladesh were so skilled that they dominated the textile market.
But on August 5, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed had to leave her chair and come to India. The system started breaking down in Bangladesh. Gradually, due to the situation that started developing there, other countries started trusting them less. Because in Bangladesh, under the pretext of student movement, such elements captured power who were religious fundamentalists and were against minorities, especially Hindus.
How will Pakistan help?
These radical elements of Bangladesh were pro-Pakistan, hence their opposition towards India was natural. Bangladesh, whose land is surrounded by India on three sides and the Bay of Bengal on one side, cannot export from that country without India’s help. But Bangladesh has created such bitter relations with India that now ousting India has become its main mantra. Bangladesh forgets that Pakistan cannot help in Bangladesh’s import and export even if it wants to. He can create an atmosphere against India there, but what will he do with import and export? It is true that maritime relations have been established with Pakistan since November 13. On this day, a cargo ship from Karachi port of Pakistan reached Chittagong port of Bangladesh. But its route is so long that business is not so easy and convenient.
now radical in liberal bangladesh
Bangladesh is now completely changing itself on the lines of Pakistan. It seems that now there will be rule not of liberals but of radical Islamic fundamentalists. Maybe now Bangladesh will change its language, customs and uniqueness. The circumstances there are pointing in this direction. This seems to be the case from the way memories related to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are being destroyed in Bangladesh. The head of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus, has surrendered before the fundamentalists of his country. Now new notes of 20, 100, 500 and 1000 taka (currency of Bangladesh) are being printed. The new notes will not have the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, known as the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh. Not only this, addresses like Joy Bangla will no longer be used. To fundamentalists this phrase smacks of Hindu traditions. Where will this kind of opposition from India take Bangladesh?
From India’s friend to India’s enemy
From there the symbols associated with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are also being demolished. At the same time, Bangladesh is moving away from all those beliefs which reflect the glory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The present regime of Bangladesh forgets that the nationality and identity of Bangladesh is linked to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. If Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had not fought against the brutal government of Pakistan, Bangladesh would not have been created. Bangladesh became independent from Pakistan on 16 December 1971 and its constitution came into force a year later on 16 December 1972. However, the independence of Bangladesh was declared on 26 March 1971. Indian forces were fully supporting the Bangla Mukti Bahini fighting for the independence of Bangladesh. They also got weapons from India. Therefore, most of the people of Bangladesh continued to consider India as their friend.
Religion is not the basis of integration
However, it was not possible for Pakistan to easily maintain its rule in East Pakistan, some 2000 km away from its capital. As a result, Pakistan became prosperous, but the people of its eastern region started lagging behind in jobs, business, education and health. Separation of Pakistan from India was done on the basis of religion. But religion cannot destroy the regional society, its customs and its dialectal peculiarities. Bangladesh felt closer to Pakistan, 2000 km to the west, because of its Bengali language. The Urdu-speaking rulers of Pakistan continued to mock the Bengali language and customs of East Pakistan. The result was that after 24 years, East Pakistan became Bangladesh and all its relations with Pakistan ended.
Nuclear bomb with the help of Pakistan!
Recently, on 13 November, a Pakistani cargo ship departed from Karachi and reached Chittagong port of Bangladesh. This is a cause of great concern for India. India will suffer losses if relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan become closer. Thus, India will be surrounded by enemies on its eastern and western borders and its exports will also suffer a huge blow. Increasing relations with Pakistan means that Bangladesh will also buy arms and can also make a nuclear bomb deal with Pakistan. BBC reported that in a seminar of Bangladesh Retired Armed Forces Officers Welfare Association, Prof. Shahiduzzaman insisted that Bangladesh should sign the nuclear deal with Pakistan. If he does this then India will be alert.
Distance from India will destroy Bangladesh
Bangladesh has imported 25,000 tonnes of sugar from Pakistan, whereas earlier it used to import sugar from India. Not only this, cotton from India and pet animals from India also went to Bangladesh, because Bangladesh is the largest producer of meat of large animals. Looking at the way the interim government of Bangladesh is behaving, it seems that Bangladesh is breaking relations with India. This is not only worrying for India but is also not good for Bangladesh. Bangladesh shares its border only with India. There is sea on three sides and land on the other side, India. In such a situation, will Bangladesh be able to save its existence by maintaining the figure of 36 from India? This is a million dollar question. Maintaining distance from India will lead to disaster for it.
Pakistan’s help will be very expensive
There is a huge shortage of onion and potatoes in Bangladesh at present. Goods were sent to him from India. The condition of rice is also similar. If India does not send food to Bangladesh, there will be famine. But the situation during the Mohammad Yunus government is such that most of the people there do not want good relations with India under any circumstances. These people are supporters of Pakistan. They feel that with the help of Pakistan they will be able to answer India. According to him, India is showing its dominance in South Asia. But this is their illusion, Pakistan cannot help them in any way. If it develops a nuclear bomb with the help of Pakistan, it will have to face such heavy sanctions from western countries that its very existence will be in danger.
