The havoc of winter increased, chill made life miserable

As winter is reaching its peak, pictures of chill are being seen everywhere in Prayagraj. Elderly people hiding under quilts in their homes, children wrapped in blankets, and people sitting near burning bonfires outside to get relief from the cold are describing the conditions of this harsh winter. The sting of cold winds has increased the shivering, due to which people are being confined to their homes in the evening.

People fighting cold on footpaths and public places

Cold is no less than a challenge for the poor who spend nights on footpaths, railway platforms and bus stands. Those sleeping under the open sky have only tattered sheets, weak quilts and sometimes a burning bonfire to protect them from the cold. Some people are seen burning paper, foil, and old tires to keep themselves warm. However, these measures are proving inadequate in front of cold winds.

These people living on the streets have less facilities and there is no concrete arrangement to protect them from cold. For them, every night is like a new battle, where a small bonfire of hope is their only support.

Chilliness increased due to drop in temperature

The temperature dropped by two degrees between Thursday and Friday. The minimum temperature reached 7.4 degrees Celsius, which was 3.2 degrees below normal. On Friday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.7 degrees and the minimum was 7.4 degrees Celsius. Due to cold winds, there was a feeling of chill even during the day and people failed to get relief.

This weather is no less than a big challenge for the poor who spend the night under the open sky. Their everyday life is struggling with the gusts of cold.

Meteorologists’ warning

Dr. Shailendra Rai, meteorologist at the Center for Atmospheric and Ocean Studies of Allahabad University, said that the effect of snowfall in the mountains is clearly visible in the plains of North India. The minimum temperature has been recorded at 7.4 degrees Celsius and is likely to drop further in the coming days.

He told that there is no dense fog right now, but due to clear sky and cold winds the melting has increased. According to the Meteorological Department, the trend of decline in maximum and minimum temperatures will continue, due to which the cold may increase further.

People with weak immunity need special caution

Health experts have advised taking the outbreak of cold seriously. People with weak immunity, especially children and the elderly, need to take special precautions to avoid cold. Doctors recommend that:

  • Wear warm clothes.
  • Drink hot beverages.
  • Avoid going out during cold weather.

A little carelessness in this season can increase the risk of cold and other diseases.

Moradabad: Fear of increasing cold in next three days

In Moradabad, winter has started showing its severe form in the first half of December. People are feeling cold and their hands and legs are becoming numb as soon as they step out of the house. The effect of snowfall on the mountains can be clearly seen in the plains.

On Friday, the sun did not intensify due to cold winds, and the minimum temperature was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius. According to weather experts, there is a possibility of cold winds in the next three days.

The minimum temperature may reach 7 degrees on Saturday, which will further increase the cold. There is a possibility that the cold wave will continue in the months of December and January.

Some important measures to avoid cold

These few measures can be helpful in keeping yourself safe in this harsh winter:
