Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has taken a major action to further strengthen maritime security. In this operation, two Bangladeshi fishing boats have been seized on charges of illegal fishing in Indian waters. Additionally, 78 Bangladeshi fishermen have also been detained.

News agency ANI quoted Indian Coast Guard sources as saying that an ICG ship was near the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) during routine patrolling. During patrolling, suspicious activities were observed in Indian waters.

Identification and seizure of boats

The investigation revealed that two Bangladeshi fishing boats, “FV Laila-2” and “FV Meghna-5”, were fishing in Indian territory without permission.

  • There were 41 fishermen on FV Laila-2.
  • There were 37 fishermen on board FV Meghna-5.

The Indian Coast Guard took prompt action and stopped these boats and conducted a thorough investigation. Subsequently, all the 78 captured fishermen were handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal action.
