Mumbai: For 20-year-old Afreen Shah, who lost her life in the Kurla West bus accident, her first day of work became the last day of her life. The last time he talked to his father on mobile phone was to catch a rickshaw from Kurla station. But due to the accident, Afreen could not reach home.
Afreen was among those who were crushed to death by a BEST bus that hit pedestrians and vehicles on SG Barve Road in Kurla (West).
Father Abdul Shah spoke to his daughter for the last time. She was about to catch a rickshaw to return home after her first day at a new job in a private company. Father Abdul advised him to walk towards the highway to catch a rickshaw.
Afreen’s father said it was his first day at work in the new company. After work she reached Kurla station, from where she called me at 9.09 pm saying that she was not getting a rickshaw for Shivaji Nagar.
I asked him to go towards the highway and take a rickshaw from there, but at 9.54 pm I got a call on my daughter’s mobile. Expressing grief, Abdul said that the caller was an employee of Bhabha Hospital. They reached the hospital and Afreen’s body was in the casualty ward.
Abdul further said that the government should take necessary steps to prevent such accidents. People cannot walk on the road in this area. Over the years, the situation has been congested due to parking, ferias, metro rail work and other illegal activities. People have difficulty in walking.
