Mumbai: The death toll in a collision with a BEST bus driver on a busy road in Kurla (West) last night has reached seven. 42 people were injured and 22 vehicles were damaged in the accident. Accused More told the police during interrogation that he had started driving BEST’s electric bus from December 1 last. Earlier he used to drive mini buses. Driver More also claimed that he had taken electric bus training only for 10 days. He could not control the bus on Monday night. The officer said because he had no experience.
During police interrogation he was found to be more mentally alert. Apart from this, according to the initial medical report, he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the 12-metre long bus manufactured by Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech was examined by a forensic science expert and the regional transport officer to see if it had any mechanical fault that led to the accident.
So far seven people have died in this accident. While 42 injured were taken to Bhabha, Sion, Seven Hills Hospital for treatment. Police said that the condition of some of the injured is critical.
