Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has made it clear that taking the coronavirus vaccine does not increase the risk of sudden death in youth and adults. India. He said that in fact, ICMR’s study shows that the possibility of such deaths due to Corona vaccine is less. In this report, ICMR has tried to dispel the fears that the untimely deaths of youth and elderly in India are related to the Corona vaccine.
ICMR’s National Institute of Epidemiology collected a sample of 19 states for research.
Designed, which studied individuals aged 18-45 who were healthy and had no diseases and died suddenly from unknown causes between October 1, 2021 and March 31, 2023. This research was conducted in 47 hospitals in 19 states and union territories. During the research, samples were taken from 729 such cases who died suddenly and 2916 samples were taken from those who were saved after heart attack. Research findings show that taking at least one or two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine significantly reduces the risk of sudden death.
What is the cause of sudden death?
The research also identified several factors that increase the risk of sudden death. These include COVID-19 hospitalization of the deceased, first sudden death in the family, excessive alcohol consumption in the 48 hours before death, drug use and excessive physical activity (exercise in the gym) in the 48 hours before death. Union Health Minister JP Nadda said the ICMR study has made it clear that there is no link between the Covid-19 vaccine and sudden death in young adults. Additionally, factors such as history of COVID 19 hospitalization, history of such sudden death in the family and certain lifestyle-related practices were found to increase the chances of such death.
The Union Health Minister said that a robust surveillance system called Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) has been created to keep track of the side effects of the vaccine. He said that anaphylaxis kits are made available at the vaccination centers and after vaccination the person is kept under mandatory observation for 30 minutes. To increase awareness about AEFI, Nadda said guidelines have been issued to states to increase reporting of cases related to vaccine side effects. The government is also using social media to spread awareness.
Let us tell you here that the matter of side effects of Covid vaccine reached the Supreme Court. On October 14 this year, the Supreme Court had rejected the petitions alleging side effects like blood clotting due to Corona vaccine. A bench of then Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra said that such petitions were filed only to create sensation. The issue of alleged side effects from the Covid vaccine gained momentum when British pharma company AstraZeneca admitted in a court there in April this year that its Covid 19 Covishield could cause side effects. However, the company also said that this would happen only in very rare cases. It is noteworthy that Serum Institute of India produced Covishield vaccine in India using the same formula developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca. However, Serum Institute claimed that no cases of side effects of Covishield vaccine have been reported in India. In documents filed in a British court, AstraZeneca admitted that its corona vaccine could cause thrombosis thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) in one in one million cases. In such a situation, blood clots form in the body and platelet count becomes very low.
