Today is the last day of Reserve Bank of India’s Shaktikanta Das as RBI Governor. Today i.e. 10th December 2024 is the last day of his tenure. He served as RBI Governor for 6 years. In his last speech on Tuesday, Shaktikanta Das informed about many challenges for RBI. Shaktikanta Das said that the biggest challenge for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will be to control inflation. He said that the objective of RBI is to bring inflation under control, which is the most important function for RBI. Outgoing Governor Shaktikanta Das said that CBDC has immense potential, it is the currency of the future.

Shaktikanta Das said about the new RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra that he has extensive experience, I am sure he will give his best. He advised not to consider the issues as unfinished business, but to work in progress. Shaktikanta Das said that he has no future plans after becoming the governor. He further said that growth can be affected by many factors and not just high rates, ‘As the RBI Governor, it is your job to give me a rating.’ Within the RBI and the MPC, we were confident that our measures were the best option.

Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra will take over as RBI Governor after Shaktikanta Das. He has been appointed as the new Governor of RBI. Sanjay Malhotra will be the 26th Governor of RBI. He is a 1990 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre. Became Chairman and MD of REC in November 2020. Before this he was Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power. Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS) was nominated as the Director of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by the Central Government in the year 2022.
