Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh could not maintain his winning streak and lost to defending champion Ding Liren of China in the 12th round of the World Chess Championship. With the defeat of Gukesh, the score between the two players became equal at 6-6.

18-year-old Gukesh took a one-point lead with an 11th-round win on Sunday, but the Chinese player managed to make a comeback in the tournament. Seven consecutive matches between the two were drawn. The result was decided in the 11th round but in the match held on Monday, Liren was successful in defeating the Indian Grandmaster by wallop. Both players are now 1.5 points away from the title. If the score is tied after completion of 14 rounds, the winner will be decided by faster time control. The next two matches between the two will be played on Wednesday and Thursday. Both have been given rest on Tuesday.
