Heavy snowfall on Western Himalayan peaks: Cold has increased due to heavy snowfall on the peaks of western Himalayan states including Jammu and Kashmir. 87 roads in Himachal had to be closed due to snowfall. Also, two people including a tourist from Delhi lost their lives in the accident due to vehicle slipping. Whereas one person has died in Jammu and Kashmir. 1300 tourists stranded due to snowfall in Lahaul and Dhundi have been safely transported to Manali.
Cold increased in North-West India
Due to snowfall and rain in the mountains, the cold has increased in Delhi and surrounding areas. At present, there seems to be no respite from the increasing cold, as the Meteorological Department has predicted severe cold in the entire north-west India for the next four to five days. Also, there is a possibility of wind blowing at a speed of 8 to 12 km per hour in North-West India for the next three days, due to which severe cold can be experienced.
Leh becomes the coldest city due to snowfall in the mountains
Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand also received 6.7 cm snowfall on Monday. Along with Gulmarg and Sonamarg, there has been a white blanket of snow due to snowfall in Dudhpathri also. Srinagar-Leh highway is also closed due to snowfall. Razdan has the Block on Bandipora-Gurez Road and Kupwara-Tangdhar Road on Sadhna Top. Currently Leh is the coldest with a minimum temperature of minus 12.8 degrees.
Atal Tunnel closed for tourists due to snowfall
There was snowfall again in Kufri and Lahaul on Monday afternoon. Therefore, due to slippage, Atal Tunnel Rohtang has been closed for tourists. On the other hand, 15 roads and 18 transformers have been completely closed due to snowfall. Traffic was restored to Upper Shimla on Monday afternoon. But Lahaul’s connectivity with Manali is still broken.
There is a possibility of reduction in cold in the state due to sunshine from Tuesday. Whereas yellow alert of fog has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday in some areas of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra and Mandi.
