With the help of four goals from Mumtaz Khan and a hat-trick of goals from Kanika Siwach and Deepika, defending champion India made a winning start to its campaign by defeating Bangladesh 13-1 in the Women’s Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament. Mumtaz scored goals in the 27th, 32nd, 53rd and 58th minutes for the winning Indian team in the Group-A match.

In the match, Deepika scored for India in the 7th, 20th and 55th minutes and Kanika scored in the 12th, 51st and 52nd minutes. Apart from this, Beauty Dung Dung scored in the 33rd minute and Upsuka’s Sakshi Rana scored in the 43rd minute to ensure India’s one-sided victory. The only goal for Bangladesh was scored by Orpita Pal in the 12th minute. India’s second match will be against the Malaysian team playing in the group. The Indian team will look to defend its title and qualify directly for the Junior World Cup to be held in Santiago, Chile next year in 2025. All four teams that reach the semi-finals will automatically qualify for the World Cup.
