Maharashtra Maha Vikas Aghadi controversy: After facing a crushing defeat in the assembly elections, now there is a ruckus in the Maha Vikas Aghadi regarding the opposition party. No opposition party has the quorum of 29 members, which is required for the post of Leader of the Opposition. However, Uddhav Sena has demanded the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and the leader of the opposition party. According to the information, Congress is also involved in the race for the leader of the opposition party. Congress leader Nana Patole said that there will be a discussion in Mahavikas Aghadi for the leader of the opposition, a decision will be taken later. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar has to decide whether the opposition alliance will get the status of Leader of Opposition or not.

Mahavikas Aghadi has faced a crushing defeat in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP together won only 46 seats. Shiv Sena has won maximum 20 assembly seats. Congress was stuck at 16 seats and NCP-SP at 10 seats. A minimum of 29 seats is required for a major opposition party in the 288-member assembly. According to the rules, if the Speaker of the Assembly, in his discretion, can give this status to the opposition party claiming it. The second important claim is for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, which will traditionally be given to the opposition party. If the coalition government does not agree on this then the decision will be taken by voting. Mahayuti has got the support of 230 members in the assembly.

A small minority section of Congress is also in the race for leader of the opposition party.

According to sources, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena has staked claim for the post of Vice President and Leader of Opposition, although Congress is also eyeing this post. Before this, Vijay Wadettiwar and Nana Patole of Congress had held this post. Shiv Sena (UBT) has elected Bhaskar Jadhav as legislative leader and Sunil Prabhu as chief whip. Nana Patole said that the MVA will discuss this before giving him the status of leader of the opposition.
