New Delhi, 10 December (Hindustan Reporter). The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has extended the contract of head coach Jonathan Trott by 12 months, keeping him in the post till the end of 2025. This decision has been taken after Trott’s successful tenure of two and a half years so far, in which Afghanistan has made great progress.
The year 2024 has been very memorable for Afghanistan especially as they managed to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time in their history. They recently completed the series win in the ODI format by defeating South Africa and Bangladesh in Sharjah.
Afghanistan also had a memorable campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup where they achieved wins over Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka and finished in the top 8. As a result, Afghanistan will now play in the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March next year for the first time in their history.
The board also confirmed that Trott will be in charge of the team only for the ODI leg of the Zimbabwe tour due to personal reasons. Hence, former players Hamid Hasan and Navroz Mangal will take over as head coach and assistant coach for the T20 and Test respectively.
