The government has decided not to extend the tenure of Shaktikanta Das. In his previous assignment he held the post of Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. He has wide experience in finance and tax sector in State and Central Government. He is a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Rajasthan cadre.

Malhotra has extensive experience in finance and taxation in state and central government. He is a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Rajasthan cadre. Malhotra will take over as RBI Governor from December 11, 2024. Sanjay Malhotra is an IIT graduate.
Who is Sanjay Malhotra?
Sanjay Malhotra is a 1990 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Rajasthan cadre. He studied engineering in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur and holds a master’s degree in public policy from Princeton University, USA.
In his 33 years of career he has shown great leadership and experience in various sectors like power, finance and taxation, information technology, mining etc. He is currently serving as Revenue Secretary in the Finance Ministry. Earlier he was holding the post of Secretary in the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.
He has deep experience in finance and taxation at both the state and central government levels. In his current tenure he plays an important role in making policies related to direct and indirect taxes.
