Donald Trump clarified his stance on the ongoing conflict in Syria, saying – ‘This is not our fight’

Syria

America’s newly elected President Donald Trump said on Saturday that America should avoid military action in Syria. “This is not our fight,” he said in a post on social media. Trump’s statement has come at a time when the rebels have reached the suburbs of the capital Damascus. He said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad does not deserve American support to remain in power. Trump said that because Russia is an ally of Assad, who is embroiled in a war with Ukraine, ‘it seems unable to stop what is happening in Syria.’

‘America has nothing to do with this’

The president-elect also condemned America’s overall handling of the 13-year-long war in Syria. “Syria is in chaos, but it is not our friend and the US should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Don’t get involved in this.”

Rebels capture major cities

Meanwhile, let us also tell you here that the rebels have captured three major cities of Syria, which include Aleppo, Homs and Daraa. Rebels have surrounded the capital Damascus. Abu Mohammed al-Golani, head of the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (HTS), said in an interview with CNN from Syria that the attack was aimed at removing the Assad government from power.

What did PM Jalali say?

Prime Minister Jalali has said that he is ready to peacefully hand over the reins of the government to the opposition. “I am at my residence and have not gone anywhere, and that is because I love my country,” he said. He said he would go to his office to work and requested Syrian citizens not to damage public property.
