The Allahabad High Court has taken seriously the deaths occurring in accidents during transportation of bricks, sand etc. by tractor-trolleys meant for agricultural work. The court has given instructions to the government to control this. The court has advised to use tractor-trolley only for agricultural purposes and has also asked the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department to make a law for this, if necessary.

This order has been given by the single bench of Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav while rejecting the bail application of Sanjay, accused in the death of a youth in an accident with a tractor-trolley in the Araon police station area of Firozabad district of UP. The court said in its decision that it is often seen that the work of tractors is related to farming. Which are used for ploughing, sowing, harvesting and transportation of crops and seeds for farming. But bricks, sand, ballast etc. are transported illegally on those vehicles.

The court has said that tractor-trolleys are operated on main roads, busy routes and markets as they are used for other commercial purposes. Tractor trolley is very big, which not only causes frequent traffic jams but also causes accidents and sometimes people even lose their lives in the accidents. The court has also suggested that tractor-trolleys used in agriculture should not be used to transport grains, rather farmers should be encouraged to use other vehicles to transport goods.
The Court has said that using the registered tractor-trolley for non-agricultural work is a violation of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1998. The Transport Department also says from time to time that tractor-trolleys should not be run on main roads without any reason. In such a situation, it is expected that the Transport Department will tighten the noose on such unauthorized tractor-trolleys, so that accidents and deaths due to them can be prevented.
