On Saturday, Agartala Police in Tripura detained 10 Bangladeshi citizens. Officials said that these people are Bangladeshi Hindus who were illegally entering India from Tripura border to escape the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh.
According to a police officer, the 10 people detained include two women, three teenagers and an elderly man. He was detained from Ambassa railway station in Tripura. These people were detained when they were about to board a train bound for Silchar in Assam. The officer said that we are taking legal action against the citizens of Bangladesh. One of those detained, Shankar Chandra Sarkar, said he had fled from Dhanpur village in Bangladesh’s Kishoreganj district after constant threats. He said that we entered India by climbing the densely forested mountains from Kamalpur in Tripura. We were trying to go to Silchar to stay in a rented house in Silchar, Assam. Speaking to the media, these people said that before leaving the village to come to India, they had sold some of their properties, however, they had to flee leaving behind a large amount of property and furniture.
