Shimla, 09 December (Hindustan Reporter). Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, received fresh snowfall late Sunday night. After many years, the first snowfall of the winter season occurred in Shimla city in the second week of December. Heavy snow has also fallen in the tourist places adjacent to the city, Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda. Apart from this, the higher areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, Manali, Chamba and Sirmaur and Dhauladhar hills of Kangra are also covered with snow.
In the hill station Shimla, there is a white blanket of snow on the cedar trees, roofs of houses, paths and roads. Tourists have become happy with this snowfall and this will give impetus to the tourism business. Tourists enjoyed the snowfall late night by dancing and singing on the Ridge Ground and Mall Road. There are chances of tourists coming from outside states to witness the snowfall. However, the latest snowfall also brought many problems. Vehicular movement on the internal roads of the city has been affected. Shimla-Chandigarh and Shimla-Bilaspur National Highways are open. Due to this snowfall, all the main roads leading to Upper Shimla have been closed.
According to the district administration, the main roads from Shimla to Theog, Narkanda, Rohru, Chaupal and Rampur are closed. Shimla-Rampur National Highway-5 is closed at Fagu and Kufri under Theog sub-division. This highway is also blocked in Narkanda due to heavy snowfall. Shimla-Chaupal road has been blocked in the window of Chaupal. The administration has deployed machinery on these roads and the work of restoring traffic is underway. Most roads are expected to be restored by noon. Many vehicles are stuck due to snowfall in Upper Shimla and police personnel are rescuing the stranded passengers. Police rescued five people traveling in a car stuck in snowfall in Rayuni of Chaupal.
Meanwhile, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has clarified that all the schools of Shimla will remain open today and no holiday has been given due to snowfall. At present it is cloudy in the hilly areas including the capital Shimla. The weather is clear in the plains. It rained with thunder in the plain districts last night. The drought that had been going on for the last 70 days has ended due to cloud rain in Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Kangra and Mandi districts. Rain is beneficial for the wheat crop.
Cold wave has intensified in the entire state due to rain and snowfall. The mercury has reached minus at many places in tribal and hilly areas. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall in the high mountain and intermediate areas today and tomorrow also. The weather is expected to remain clear in the plains. The weather is likely to remain dry in the state from 11 to 14 December.
