Railway Rules: The wedding season is going on and people book train tickets months in advance to go to their relatives’ weddings so that they can get a confirmed seat. Even today, not every city has an airport, so for most people the train is still the best and most economical way to go. Many times it happens that you have a confirmed ticket but due to some reason you are not able to travel on that day and want to send another family member in your place.
In such a situation, most people cancel their tickets and rebook the ticket in someone else’s name. But then the chances of getting a confirmed ticket reduces. Sometimes it may happen that the date of the work for which you were going today has been extended. Even in such situations, people cancel their tickets and book the tickets again. Perhaps you too have done this many times. But now there is no need to do this, Railways has found a solution to your problem. Now you do not need to cancel your ticket to change your name to someone else or to change the date of travel.
Know the conditions for changing name on ticket
One thing that is important for you to know is that the facility to change name on the ticket is available only on offline tickets. That means, this facility is available only on those tickets which you have booked from the reservation counter. Another special thing is that on this ticket, instead of your name, you can change the names of only your close people and family members.
For example, you can replace your name with the name of your parent, sibling, or son or daughter. If a group of students or officials have booked their group ticket, there is also an option to change the name.
Procedure to change name on ticket
1. First of all you have to go to the railway ticket reservation counter. Remember that it is necessary to reach 24 hours before the departure of the train. So go to the nearest railway reservation counter.
2. Then to change the name on the ticket you will have to apply in writing.
3. If the ticket is in your name, then you will have to provide your ID and the ID of the person in whose name the ticket is to be booked at the counter.
4. Then after receiving all the necessary documents the railway officer puts the name of the new passenger on the ticket.
Process to change journey date on ticket
1. If you have purchased the ticket offline i.e. from the counter, then you will have to go to the reservation counter with the ticket 48 hours before the departure of the train.
2. You can then change the date of journey by giving your original ticket at the counter or you will have to apply for it later.
3. After this, the railway employee present at the counter will change the date and give you another ticket.
The facility to change date or name is not available on tickets purchased online. Another important point is that the option to change the date of journey is available only on confirmed or RAC tickets. That means this facility is not available on Tatkal tickets. The date of journey for a passenger can be changed only once and that too subject to availability.
