Agartala, 07 December (Hindustan Reporter). Shankar Chandra Sarkar (40), a resident of Bangladesh, says that he would like to stay in an Indian jail with his family, but will not go back to Bangladesh. Auto driver Shankar, resident of Dhanpur village of Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh, was caught by the Railway Police (GRP) along with his entire family from Ambasa police station area of Dhalai district of Tripura on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, Shankar Chandra Sarkar expressed his disappointment over the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh. He said that the situation in Bangladesh has become unbearable after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government. Minorities like us are no longer safe there. It is very difficult to live there with wife and children. We face constant attacks and threats. Even for filing complaints, attacks are carried out. I drive auto to support my family, but now it has become impossible to make a living there. He said that we have come across the border to find peace. Even if we have to go to jail for this, we would rather go to jail than go back. We are 10 people here including my father. After spending the night in the jungle, we crossed the border and reached here early today. A man helped us cross the border. We were going to Silchar in Assam by train. We are ready to die here, but we will not go there.
Acting on a tip-off, GRP detained everyone near Ambassa railway station. The 10 detained include three men, six women and one minor. He confessed to crossing the border at Kamalpur in Dhalai district.
