Lucknow, 07 December (Hindu). Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a historic step towards running the Jal Jeevan Mission on solar energy, giving priority to environmental protection and use of renewable energy. This initiative will not only reduce energy consumption but also improve the environment and save government resources. On one hand, this will reduce the emissions of carbon dioxide by about 13 lakh metric tons per year, while on the other hand, the expenses incurred in conventional power supply will be reduced. This will also increase the government treasury.
The Chief Minister recently held a meeting with officials regarding Jal Jeevan Mission. Officials were told in the meeting that at present a total of 40,951 schemes of Jal Jeevan Mission are running in the state. This includes 204 schemes based on surface groundwater sources under Phase-I, 7,504 schemes based on electricity-based groundwater, 14 schemes based on surface sources under Phase-IV and 33,229 schemes based on solar energy based groundwater. With the implementation of 33,229 schemes of Jal Jeevan Mission by the Yogi government, the state government will save approximately Rs 1 lakh crore during the planning period. About 900 MW of solar panels have been installed to run 33,229 schemes of the mission with solar energy. This innovation has been marked as best practices by the Central Government. Construction of solar energy based schemes will reduce emissions of about 13 lakh metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) every year. At the same time, 390 lakh carbon credits can be earned in the next 30 years.
The Central Government has marked this innovative initiative of Yogi Government as Best Practices. This has become an inspiring model for the entire country, which will encourage other states to adopt renewable energy.
Let us tell you that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is not only ensuring the supply of drinking water in rural areas through Jal Jeevan Mission, but is also fulfilling its responsibility towards the environment. Solar energy based schemes are not only reducing the cost of energy but are also helping the state to emerge as a “Green State”.
