Damascus, 07 December (HIST). In Syria, rebels from al-Qaeda and Turkey-backed terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham have claimed to have captured the entire Hama province from President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. Rebels have already gained control of Idlib (north-west) and Aleppo (north). The rebels said they now had full control of Hama.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham has claimed full control of Hama in central Syria, Arabic news website 963+ reported. Hama is called the capital of the Syrian revolution. Rebels declared victory in Hama, pushing Syrian forces back from the city of Daraa and its eastern and western countryside.

963+ quoted sources as saying that the terrorist group had forced Syrian security forces to retreat from all villages, towns and military points in the eastern and western countryside. Daraa city has also been captured by the rebels. Government security forces have also withdrawn from Ijra city. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allied armed groups advanced on Syria’s third-largest city of Homs on Friday. Government forces lost areas under their control in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in the east of the country.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s leader Abu Mohammed al-Julani announced that their goal was to overthrow the Syrian regime. The situation is such that the strong hold of the rebels in Syria has shocked Iran. It has started evacuating its military officers and embassy personnel from Syria. Iran has been helping Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in every way for almost 13 years. This unexpected step of Iran has also increased the concern of President Assad.

According to The New York Times, Iran began evacuating its military officers, soldiers and embassy personnel from Syria on Friday. These include the top commanders of Iran’s powerful Quds Forces. This force is an external branch of the Revolutionary Guards Corps. All this was helping to keep President Bashar al-Assad in power. Iranian and regional officials said the Iranian Embassy and Revolutionary Guards bases in Damascus had been ordered to be evacuated.
