Damascus, 07 December (HIST). The strong hold of the rebels in Syria has shocked Iran. It has started evacuating its military officers and embassy personnel from Syria. Iran has been helping Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in every way for almost 13 years. This unexpected step of Iran has increased the concern of President Assad. According to The New York Times, Iran began evacuating its military officers, soldiers and embassy personnel from Syria on Friday.

These include the top commanders of Iran’s powerful Quds Forces. This force is an external branch of the Revolutionary Guards Corps. All this was helping to keep President Bashar al-Assad in power. What is significant is that Iran has used Syria as a major route to supply weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to officials, Iranians began leaving Syria on Friday morning. Iranian and regional officials said the Iranian Embassy and Revolutionary Guards bases in Damascus had been ordered to be evacuated. Some embassy employees immediately left for Iran. Iran has arranged for flights for some of these and road routes for some. They are being sent by cars to Latakia port in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria.
