Drugs worth Rs 34 crore destroyed in Dimapur

Kohima, 06 December (HS). The Drug Disposal Committee (DDC) of Police Commissionerate, Dimapur carried out pre-trial destruction of the seized drugs and psychotropic substances worth Rs 34.83 crore at the DMC Dumping Ground, Dimapur Burma Camp.

According to the Police Commissioner’s Office, the seized narcotics included 9.741 kg brown sugar, Shaneflower and heroin worth Rs 2.92 crore, 16,537 SP capsules/nitrogen pills worth Rs 4.13 lakh, 5 kg crystal meth worth Rs 5 crore, 2.45 lakh 2.450 kg opium worth Rs 16.95 lakh These include 17,269 bottles of cough syrup, 2,600 kg of opium husk worth Rs 26 crore and 1,34,203 WY tablets/Simplex-E worth Rs 67 lakh.

The destroyed narcotics belonged to 79 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 in police stations under the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur. Representatives of Dimapur, Chumaukedima and Niuland district administrations and civil society organizations were present on the occasion of this settlement.

The DDC, headed by Police Commissioner Kevithuto Sofi, conducted physical verification of the seized drugs at the Prosecution Inspector’s Office, Court Complex.

DCC members including DCPs of Dimapur, Chumaukedima and Niuland districts and Superintendent of Police (Crime), Police Headquarters, Kohima etc. were present on the occasion.
