Chennai, 6 December (Hindustan Reporter). When Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC meet in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 match to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Saturday evening, both the teams will aim to strengthen their campaign with a win.

East Bengal FC are sitting at the bottom of the 13-team table with four points from one win, one draw and six losses from eight matches.

However, East Bengal had tasted victory this season by defeating NorthEast United 1-0 in their previous match. At the same time, Chennaiyin FC is at ninth position in the table with 12 points from 10 matches with three wins, three draws and four losses. She would like to end the streak of two consecutive defeats and return to the winning track.

Chennaiyin have lost their last two ISL matches against Kolkata clubs by the same scoreline of 0-1 when they lost to Mohammedan SC on September 26, 2024 and then to Mohun Bagan Super Giants on November 30, 2024.

However, Chennaiyin have been on the ball for 26.3% of the playing time this season, which is significantly more than East Bengal FC’s 10.5%.

Chennaiyin have been goalless in their last two matches, repeating their previous poor performance between December 2023-February 2024, when they failed to score in three consecutive matches.

East Bengal FC has kept two consecutive clean sheets for the first time this season, which shows their defensive strength.

Anwar Ali has recorded 8+ clearances in three matches this season, the joint-most with Stephen Agee and Alex Sazi.

Chennaiyin FC’s Scottish head coach Owen Coyle is confident that his team is fully prepared to perform well, despite recent setbacks.

“We are still in a good position,” he said. So I’m excited to move on because the upcoming games are at home and we can try and pick up full points and get ourselves back into the playoff places. This will be our endeavor.”

East Bengal FC’s Spanish head coach Oscar Brujón said that he would like to focus on Marina Machans’ collective.

He said, “I don’t think playing home or away will have any impact on the result. I would like to focus on Chennaiyin FC as a team. They are a great team with one of the top-3 coaches in the league.”

Let us tell you that there have been eight matches between the two teams in ISL, out of which Chennaiyin FC has won twice while East Bengal FC has won one match. Five matches are drawn.
